Home MenuSecond Force Main Under I-75
This Project is Complete
Project Background:
This project includes the construction of a new 24-inch wastewater force main under I-75.
The City currently utilizes a single 20-inch force main crossing I-75 to transfer wastewater
flow to the Eastside Water Reclamation Facility (EWRF). As stated in the City’s Wastewater
Master Plan, if there is a failure of the existing force main or the need to take the force
main out of service for maintenance, the wastewater flow to EWRF will be cut off. In addition to the need for redundancy, there is additional planned development, including the
recently built Sarasota Memorial Hospital, on the west side of I-75 that will have additional
wastewater flows. The Hospital has a new lift station, which has been turned over to the
City. This lift station will receive a majority of the future flows in this area of development.
Project Benefits:
Completion of this project will provide redundancy that will significantly reduce the possibility
of a wastewater flow interruption to the EWRF. Currently only one force main exists to
get flow under the highway to the EWRF. Completion of this project will result in protecting
the environment from unforeseen circumstances that could arise if the current pipe were to
fail. The level of service to the entire community will be enhanced.
Project Status:
Substantially complete, working on final close out.
Strategic Plan Goals:
- Upgrade and Maintain City Infrastructure and Facilities
- Provide Efficient, Responsive Government with High Quality Services
