The City of Venice Stormwater Inlet Marker "SWIM" Program is a great way for community groups to educate residents on the importance of "Only Rain Down the Drain."
All stormwater inlets located throughout the City ultimately drain to the Gulf.
All are welcome to participate in the SWIM program. Volunteers go out into the community armed with a map of the stormwater inlets, in order to glue "markers" on to the inlet curb. The markers are "No Dumping, Drains to Gulf." Volunteers are given a bag of supplies, including stormwater inlet markers, maps, safety vests, glue and more. The current plastic markers are being replaced with new porcelain markers. Some inlets do not have any markers. The ultimate goal is for every inlet in the City to have a marker.
If you are interested in becoming a SWIM volunteer, contact Christina Rimes, the Program Coordinator to set it up at 941-882-7412. As few as two people can make a team! A letter can also be issued with a timesheet for volunteers to track their time.
On May 30, 2024 members of the Venice Yacht Club participated in a SWIM volunteer day.
