Project Background:

The City’s Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was originally constructed in 1990 and has undergone multiple expansions and upgrades over the years. However, among the WTP upgrades, the generator and switchgear were never upgraded. Though still deemed to be in good working order at that time, recent evaluations determined this equipment has reached the end of its useful life due to the age of the equipment and ever increasing difficulty to get replacement parts.

The project includes addition of a new generator and replacement of the existing switchgear to ensure standby power is a always available at the WTP. The new generator is being installed within a separate outdoor rated soundproof enclosure to allow the existing generator to remain in service to increase backup power reliability in the drinking water system and reduce emission requirements and O&M costs for the new generator. During construction a catastrophic failure of the existing generator occurred requiring it to be replaced to maintain emission compliance.

Project Benefits:

The project will provide reliable backup dependability at the WTP and will enhance the replacement parts to maintain proper operations and maintenance.
