Project Background:

The City of Venice owns and operates one Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant, which
serves approximately 26,000 residents from its loca􀆟on near the Intracoastal Waterway.
Though the current system adequately distributes water to customers throughout the City,
occasionally customers further east may experience lower pressures during peak demand
times. In order to improve the level of service, the City is building a Water Booster Pump
Station (BPS). The BPS will be located on the northern portion of a 44-acre City-owned
parcel at the eastern end of Gene Green Road adjacent to the Dona Bay Surface Water
Storage Facility.

In addition to the pump station and ground storage tank, the project will include two 16-
inch water mains, one along Knights Trail and the other along the Venetian Golf and River
Club perimeter road. It will also provide for an emergency interconnect with Sarasota
County’s potable water system, and an Emergency Operations Center for the Utilities
Department. The City is also building a large solar panel system as part of the project to
provide the equivalent amount of electricity that it will take to run the proposed BPS.

Project Benefits:

The project will improve the level of potable water service and fire protection in the northeastern portion of the City’s service area and potentially increase water pressure and flow
during peak demands for potable water users in the entire service area.
