Chief Tom Mattmuller

Mattmuller

Chief Tom Mattmuller began his career with the Venice Police Department in 1991, and served in many capacities - Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Captain.  In 2016, the Venice City Council confirmed Chief Tom Mattmuller as the administrative head of the Police Department.

Chief Mattmuller has lived, worked, and played in the Venice Community for over 30 years, which makes him familiar with community needs and allows vision for the Venice Police Department.

To accomplish our mission to provide public safety, and by understanding the importance of community interaction to identify and solve problems, Chief Mattmuller identifies the police department priorities as recruitment retention, accreditation, and training.

Our success is dependent upon the right people in the right place with the right training.  The Venice Police Department received re-accreditation in 2018.  The Venice Police Department continues on the path toward becoming an Excelsior Agency. This Department was named “Pillar of the Community” because of our history, dedication and loyal commitment to engage community through events such as Shop with A Cop, Blue Santa, Shark Tooth Fishing Tournament, Citizens Police Academy and the Senior Assistance Freedom Enrichment, (SAFE) Program.

Chief Mattmuller’s vision for the department is to provide a variety of services.  This led to structure the 73 members’ department into three divisions:   Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Administrative Services.

The City of Venice continues to be named as a safe city and a top rated retirement destination.  This is a clear indicator of the three divisions working together to accomplish our mission, “Our Community, Our Citizens, Our Commitment”.
