Current Plan

Purpose

The Comprehensive Plan is the City’s blueprint for the future. The Plan and its Strategies are crucial when preparing for opportunities such as land use, transportation, housing, and open spaces. People need a safe and secure place to live, a healthy economy that provides jobs and services, ways to get around the City (bike, pedestrian, car, transit), and quality recreational features. It is the responsibility of the City leadership to provide the necessary public services and facilities, develop strategies, and adopt regulations and standards that implement this blueprint. The Comprehensive Plan is an umbrella document that guides other City plans, capital projects, and programs which affect the community.

The City of Venice Comprehensive plan was recently updated, and went into effect on January 12, 2018. The update process included gathering information from residents and other interested parties. The Planning Commission and City Council reviewed all elements of the 2010 Comprehensive Plan, beginning with the first community workshop on September 24, 2015. On November 28, 2017, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2017-22, providing for adoption the 2017-2027 Comprehensive Plan, to replace in its entirety the 2010 Comprehensive Plan. The adopted plan was transmitted to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) on December 5, 2017. For more information regarding the new plan, contact Planning & Zoning staff.
