The City of Venice Emergency Operations Center is currently in communications with the Sarasota County EOC concerning Hurricane Dorian. At this time, the City is monitoring the storm and will make adjustments as needed.

In addition, other preparations are being made citywide:

Public Works: Staff is stockpiling supplies, testing generators and equipment, filling fuel storage tanks and securing any loose debris at City facilities.

Sandbags will be available for citizens at two locations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30: Avenue Des Parques and West Venice Avenue (behind Venice City Hall); and Wellfield Park off Pinebrook Road. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household while supplies last. Sandbags are also available for purchase at White Cement Specialties, 202 Seaboard Ave., Venice (941-488-2172).

Engineering: Beach outfalls are being monitored. Prestorm beach assessment photos have been completed in case of any damage. Staff are notifying contractors to implement their hurricane plan, which includes securing equipment and materials.

Utilities: Officials report both water and wastewater facilities have enough supplies to run the plants throughout the storm, as well as generators. All 86 lift stations are working properly.
