Patrol Division Commander Capt. Andy Leisenring
Captain Leisenring earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University in Michigan and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a focus on Strategic Management from Boston University.
He began his law enforcement career in Michigan in 2001. After six and a half years of service, he joined the Venice Police Department (VPD) in 2007. Since then, he has held various positions, including Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Special Operations Lieutenant. Currently, Captain Leisenring serves as the Patrol Division Commander.
Captain Leisenring is the first VPD member to earn the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Trilogy Award, having completed a series of leadership programs. He is also the first member to graduate from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Senior Leadership Program, Class #23, in July 2021, and the first to graduate from the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police, Session #92, in July 2024.
Residing in Venice, Captain Leisenring enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He is an active member of a local church and volunteers with various local non-profit organizations.
