There are more than 500 linear feet of donated papers, records, letters, photographs, scrapbooks and artifacts housed in the Archives. There are several large photographic collections including a subject indexed general collection of over 1300 images from the pioneer era to present day, a 32 linear foot collection of negatives and contact prints of images that appeared in the Venice Gondolier newspaper from 1962 thru 1986 and over 3500 images taken by local photographer Woody Thayer from 1946 thru 1976. There are still more photographs and slides in the manuscript collection.
Other resources include oral histories on audio cassette tapes, VCR tapes of local events, books related to area history, city directories and telephone books, copies of the Venice News newspaper from 1926 thru May 1928, copies of the Venice Gondolier newspaper from 1946 thru 1986, city tax ledgers, school yearbooks, postcards and maps. Information regarding early settlers, city government, recreational activities, schools, churches and economic development are indexed in the vertical file collection. Other items of interest are historical, preservation and archaeological journals and magazines.
Materials at the Archives are available for research and education regarding the history of the Venice area. Photocopying, photographic reproduction and research assistance are available.
